How to Choose the Perfect Bathroom Mirror Size, Easy-To-Follow Guide

Selecting a mirror with the ideal proportions for your space can seem daunting yet there's no definitive right or wrong size. If you're unsure where to start in this process, our article offers invaluable guidance to align you on the right trajecto.

1. Decide on a placement for your mirror.Identifying the position of the mirror is the first step, as it can help you accurately measure your space and consider aesthetic issues before purchasing a mirror from Moonmirror.

  • Generally, mirrors are usually placed directly above the sink. However, this is not a must. You can hang the mirror anywhere else, like the side or behind the sink, but this might require some time for you to get used to it.

2. Measure your vanity or sink. An important parameter, the width of your vanity, will determine the width of the mirror you choose. Your mirror can be the same width as your vanity or smaller. But it should not be larger than your vanity, as this would cause a visual imbalance.

  • A classic rule is to have the mirror's width 2-4 inches smaller than the vanity. For instance, a 30-inch wide vanity should be complemented by a 26-28 inch mirror.
  • If you are planning on installing wall lamps on either side of the mirror, take the size of the lights into consideration.
  • If you have a double sink design, you could either install a large mirror above it, or consider installing a mirror over each sink to create a more stylish space.

3. Measure the area above the vanity or sink. This is used to determine the height the mirror needs to be. Bathroom mirrors are usually placed at least 4-6 inches from the ceiling.
  • You need to consider the height of the wall and the height of the person who uses the bathroom the most, so that they can observe the mirror naturally and comfortably.
  • Of course, you want to ensure that the height of the mirror can accommodate the average adult height (the average height for women is 5 feet 5 inches, for men it is 5 feet 10 inches).

4. Place the mirror a few inches (a few centimeters) above the sink to reduce back splashes. Remember! To avoid splashing water from the sink, place the mirror high enough above the vanity. This factor should also be recorded in the measurement of the mirror height.

5. ConsiderAccommodate accessories and/or electrical outlets. Finally, if you plan to install shelves or power outlets around the mirror, or if your mirror has tilting pivot, please take them into account in the size and location of the mirror, and ensure that there is enough space between them to avoid space disorder.

In summary, choosing a mirror that suits your bathroom requires careful consideration of your personal needs, the size of the bathroom, and the functionality of the mirror itself. This process requires careful thought, but it is this process that makes the bathroom truly a place of belonging in your life.
